What does an answer engine optimization tool do?

Answer Engine Optimization is the work of making a site quotable by AI answer engines rather than merely rankable in a list of links. A tool for it has four jobs, and most products on the market do one or two:

  1. Diagnose — score each page on whether an engine could extract and cite it.
  2. Find the gaps — identify the topics and questions your site does not answer.
  3. Prioritise — turn the findings into an ordered plan rather than a list of errors.
  4. Verify — measure whether engines actually began citing you.

Tools that only do step one sell you a readiness score you cannot validate. Tools that only do step four sell you a dashboard confirming you are invisible. OPSYRA does all four, which is the reason it exists.

Per-page AI citability scoring

Every crawled page is scored 0–100 across eleven signals that determine whether an answer engine can lift a passage from it safely:

SignalWeight
Answer-first opening paragraph15
FAQ schema markup15
Article / HowTo schema10
Question-style headings10
Citable block structure10
Author byline present10
Original data or statistics10
Word count in range5
Authority outbound links5
Freshness5
Meta description present5

Pages land in four bands — Highly Citable, Partially Citable, Needs Work, Not AI-Ready — and anything under 70 gets a specific fix plan: the area to change, the instruction, a copy-paste example, and the points it should recover.

Scoring is page-type aware. A checkout page is not judged on whether it has an answer-first opening, because it should not have one.

Content gaps and the opportunity zones

Scoring existing pages only tells you about pages you already have. The larger opportunity is usually the questions nobody on your site answers.

OPSYRA maps every topic you cover into four zones on two axes — how well you cover it, and whether AI answers it without a click:

  • Zone A — Cited. You cover it and AI cites you. Maintain.
  • Zone B — Protect clicks. You cover it, AI answers it itself. Add unique data.
  • Zone C — Skip. Low coverage, AI answers it anyway. Wasted ground.
  • Zone D — Opportunity. AI cannot answer it well and you do not cover it. Build here first.

Zone D is where new content pays back fastest, and it is the part teams consistently miss when they plan content by keyword volume alone.

A roadmap, not a list of problems

Findings become a twelve-week publishing calendar. Each week has a brief containing the target keyword with monthly search volume, difficulty and CPC from live keyword data, the content format, the zero-click risk, the schema to implement, a suggested answer-first opening, and the FAQ questions to answer.

The sequencing is deliberate: a pillar page, then its supporting subtopics, then the commercial page for the same topic, then the FAQ cluster — so topical authority accumulates instead of scattering.

OPSYRA will also generate the articles, grounded in your real product features and brand voice rather than generic copy.

Verification: did it work?

This is the part that separates an AEO tool from a checklist.

After the fixes ship, OPSYRA runs a fixed panel of unbranded buyer queries against live answer engines weekly and records whether your domain is cited, where, and which domains are cited instead. Readiness scores are the input; citations are the outcome. When the outcome does not move, the input tells you why.

Technical checks that block everything else

Before content work matters at all, OPSYRA checks the things that silently disqualify a site:

  • Can AI crawlers read you? GPTBot, PerplexityBot and ClaudeBot do not execute JavaScript. A client-rendered site is an empty page to them. The thirty-second test.
  • Are your canonicals correct per route? A single hardcoded canonical can deindex an entire site.
  • Is your schema present in the served HTML, not injected by JavaScript?
  • Do robots.txt and llms.txt return real files rather than your app shell?

We shipped every one of those bugs on our own site. The checks exist because we needed them.

Who it is for

Founders who need to know whether AI search matters to their category before committing a content budget.

Agencies — multi-client workspaces, per-client branding and a read-only client portal are included rather than gated behind an enterprise tier.

Content teams who have the writers and need to know what to write and in what order.

Frequently asked questions

What is an answer engine optimization tool?

An answer engine optimization tool analyses a website for how easily AI answer engines such as ChatGPT, Perplexity and Google AI Overviews can extract and cite its content, then helps close the gaps. The better ones cover four jobs: scoring pages for citability, identifying missing topics, prioritising the work into a plan, and measuring whether engines actually started citing the site.

How is an AEO tool different from an SEO tool?

An SEO tool measures rankings, traffic and backlinks against a search index. An AEO tool measures whether AI engines cite your domain inside generated answers, which requires querying those engines directly because there is no ranking position to track. AEO also scores passage-level structure and schema clarity, since answer engines extract passages rather than ranking whole pages.

How much does an AEO tool cost?

OPSYRA starts at ₹1,499 per month, about $17, for a full audit of one website, with Starter at ₹3,499 and Growth at ₹8,499. US-denominated competitors typically start higher: Profound's multi-engine Growth tier is $399 per month, Scrunch is $250 and AthenaHQ is $295, though Otterly.AI starts at $29 for basic monitoring.

What is AI citability scoring?

AI citability scoring rates how easily an answer engine could quote a page, based on signals such as whether it opens with a direct answer, carries FAQ and Article schema, uses question-shaped headings, names a real author, includes original data, and is recent. OPSYRA scores eleven such signals out of 100 and produces a specific fix plan for any page below 70.

Will an AEO tool get me cited by ChatGPT?

No tool can guarantee a citation. On-page work makes a page citable, which is a prerequisite, but whether an engine actually cites you also depends on authority, freshness and whether third-party sources it trusts mention you. For commercial queries in particular, engines synthesise from review sites and listicles rather than vendor websites, so off-page presence usually decides the outcome.

Do I need an AEO tool if I already do SEO?

The SEO fundamentals carry over — crawlability, indexation, architecture and authority all still determine whether you are eligible to be cited. What SEO tooling cannot tell you is whether AI engines cite you, because citations without clicks never appear in analytics or rank tracking. That measurement gap is the main reason to add an AEO tool rather than replace anything.
